Typical Scarborough decks
Post-war bungalow backyards usually hold a low, ground-level deck that has been patched for years. Split-levels often have a raised deck off the kitchen, with stairs down to the yard and a lot of framing underneath. Both come down the same way, but the raised ones take more labour and more bin space.
Many Scarborough lots are bigger than downtown ones, with a driveway and a side gate wide enough to carry material out or even bring in compact equipment. Ravine-edge lots near the Bluffs and the Rouge are different. Slope, tree roots and protected trees decide where we can walk, dig and stage a bin.
How the demolition goes
We walk the route from the street to the deck first, then protect anything staying: fences, gardens, a patio next to the deck. Boards and railings come off, then the framing, then the stairs. If the deck is attached to the house, we detach it cleanly and leave the wall ready for a carpenter to seal or patch.
On a raised deck the framing is cut into manageable sections and lowered, not dropped. Everything is loaded into a bin on the driveway where we can, and the crew sweeps the work area before they go.
Footings and what is left in the ground
Posts sit on footings, and on many older decks those are poured concrete. We can dig each one out and backfill the hole for clear ground, or cut the posts at grade and leave the concrete in place, which costs less. On a slope, we regrade so water does not collect in a filled hole. If you are rebuilding in the same spot, sound footings can sometimes stay.
Disposal
Most decks are pressure-treated lumber, which goes to proper disposal and is not recycled with clean wood. Untreated lumber, metal hardware and railings, and concrete footings are sorted and sent to recycling where the loads allow. Disposal is part of your single written quote, not an extra afterwards.
Agincourt, Wexford, Guildwood, Birch Cliff and Highland Creek
We work across Scarborough, from Agincourt and Wexford bungalows to Guildwood and Birch Cliff lots near the lake and the Highland Creek valley. Each area has its own access issues, which we cover on the Scarborough service area page. Photos of the deck, the gate and the yard are usually enough for a quote.

Deck Demolition in Scarborough FAQs
How much does deck demolition cost in Scarborough?
A small to mid-size ground-level deck typically runs $500–$1,500, and a large, raised or multi-level deck $1,500–$3,500. Concrete footings add roughly $40–$120 each. The full table is on our deck and fence removal page.
Do I need a permit to demolish a deck?
Removal often does not need one, but a rebuilt deck may need approval depending on its size, height and attachment. Properties near ravines or protected trees can have extra rules. The owner or builder confirms the requirements with the City of Toronto; we do not file permits.
Can you work on a lot near a ravine?
Yes, but we plan around the slope and the trees first. We keep equipment off tree roots, carry material out by hand where needed and regrade any ground we disturb.
Do you take out the concrete footings?
If you want clear ground, we dig them out and backfill. If nothing will be built there, we can cut the posts at grade and leave the concrete buried, which costs less.
How long does it take?
Most decks are down and hauled away in one day. A large raised deck, or one with many footings, can take a second day.
Can you remove a hot tub or shed at the same time?
Yes. We quote the whole backyard clear-out as one job, including a shed, which is usually cheaper than separate visits.
